Over the semester I was exposed to new forms of writing, pieces that really caught my attention and drew me in. This surprised me because most of the time in my writing classes I have felt the material was dull and not intriguing. This class showed me the wide variety of readings that I could like find and really enjoy. I praise my professor for bringing these pieces to my eyes. I would have not have found them otherwise! I also learned how to use my own voice in my writing, and to not be afraid to use it. Usually in essays and formal papers I refrain from saying things I actually want to say about the topic. However in creative writing I can see how voice is a strength, and this form of writing encourages that type of originality. I still would like to learn how I can better use my voice in my writing, since this is the first time in any class I have put it to use. I learned how well a class can function together when the environment is welcoming and the floor is open for almost ...

16 SHOTS

Danielle Brazer 1 SHOT: Text: Danny Preslar: brother’s best friend, black hair, ice blue eyes, handsome, the first boy I was in love with. I remember purposely leaving my door open when him and my brother would hangout in the room next to mine so he could say hi if he passed by it. I remember wearing revealing clothes when he came over to see if he would look at me. Dan took my virginity that summer, he never knew how much I liked him. He broke my heart in two when he left for college and forgot all about me. I stayed sad for a long time. I loved him, I felt like I would do anything for him, that I could touch his skin and his only for eternity. I was sure that I would want him forever. I was 15 though. it was gross

I felt limited in my first relationship. Dan was shy, insecure, very introverted but when I had first met him none of these things were apparent to me. I became obsessive about him before I even got to know him. This was not a problem in the beginning but became a problem as I grew myself and saw he was not growing with me. In high school I had made my decision to go to Rutgers University, his presence at Rutgers intrigued me to go there. I had hoped we would stay together. At least those were my intentions when I committed early my Senior year. I thought it was going to be all I had ever wanted. I had dreamed of going to Rutgers with him since Freshmen year, and it was cazy to see this idea unfolding in reality. I remember telling Dan when I committed. He was overjoyed and bought me tons of Rutgers apparel for my birthday that January. A sweat shirt that I still wear today as well as leg warmers. We were both so so so excited it had been what we both wanted. I think in both of our...

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

I chose the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to analyze certain visual elements including color, lighting, sound, the positioning of the camera and the different types of frames used to convey the story. The film takes place in the 8th century when China was ruled by the Qing dynasty. Through their specific choice of music and consist use of musci through the film, the listener is brought back in time to ancient chinese culture. You can hear the sound dominated by sting instruments which are popular in chinese music. Some ancient instruments used were called the erhu, pipa, and guzheng. When considering the coloring of the film there exists an ominous mist that seems to lay itself in the background of most of the scenes, it brings an eerie mystical element to the story as well as makes the settings seem old and dusty. Both the colors and the music compliment each other, fully immersing the audience into past Chinese culture. The lighting as well fluctuates constantly depending o...

30 years

My parents were once complete strangers. They had no idea the rest of their lives from senior year of high school on when they met, their lives would forever change. Now, this sounds very corny, but its one hundred percent true to their story together. My parents have been married together now for 30 years. Its not valid to say that all these years its been smooth sailing because it has not been nearly that. They disagree on a multitude of things but at the same time find themselves agreeing as well. Whats interesting to say is that not one of their arguments have broken them apart. Usually when they disagree, being a third party outside, peering in, they both usually hold very strong arguments I honestly never know which side to take. They don't ask me to take sides, rather they want me knowing nothing of their arguments usually unless the argument pertains to everyone in the immediate family meaning me and my brother and them. I wonder how my family has managed to stick togethe...
