College Dorm Room
“Did you even think..”
“Did I even think about how you got that car? NO
I didn't think about it. Are you really going to spend your time asking me
things like that, I thought your dad got it for you.”
“Is it that hard for you to believe? Reflect on
yourself, isn't there moments I
dont cross your mind, and maybe for a second you think about doing things
without thinking of me? It’s not hard for me to believe, I don't make decisions
with you always in mind.
“At least when I’m thinking I am
actually THINKING! Your doing this all wrong. Your 19, you’re at school, your
studying, your earning a degree.”
“You have it half right, I’m 19 I’m at school,
I’m tired, I’m bored, Im curious, I’m..”
“Oh just shut up, what your doing is something
you certainly do not have to do, whoever made you think that this is how a
college student survives is on crack, or maybe you’re just on crack. At this
point I really can’t even tell. Now you have this car attached to your hip, what
are you gonna say to everyone. What about your family, what the helllllll are
you gonna say to them.
“You cant remove yourself from your emotions,
that’s why your having such a hard time wrapping your head around this. I am
fully capable of doing this, Emily does it too and you like her. YOU LOVE HER.”
“You’re pathetic and I wish you never stooped so
low”
“Well you are…
“You don't get to say what I am, you shouldn't
even say another word. I’m trying to engrain some sense into your narrow minded
head, don't say another thing if it will make me think you're more stupid than
what you're pulling right now. Just don’t.”
“To be completely honest, I think I’m being sooo
smart. I am getting things I’ve always wanted with the same effort it takes to
breathe, absolutely none. This is completely legal and as a business point of
view, all of it is pretty professional to me.”
“HAHAHAH did you just say
professional”
“Yes, technically it is
professional. I’m making mad money. If you knew what it felt like to come home
after just an hour of your time with a pocket full of cash, that you got
without even breaking a sweat, you would get it.”
“This isn't what you should be getting excited over, now your just being materialistic. Me and you pinky swore we would come out of this year with A’s, so we could feel good about relaxing this summer and now you spend your time like this? All this green got to your head, go home and visit your family, where are your morals? They flew out the window, and I can see our friendship following them.”

“Getting money from these men for a
few hours of my warm company and conversation is not going to get between my
A’s and our summer, I swear you would be good at it too Jess. And when you feel
the cash, oh my god, just wait til you meet a guy like Tom who finds
spending his money on you his habit”
“You’re disgusting, Tom is 75 years
old.”
“Ohhhh
and I just adore him.”
Danielle,
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me a lot of the dialogue from Juno--your characters are funny and smart and sound like 19 year olds. You tell us a great deal about their closeness and relationship just in the way they interact--the back and forth banter and ease between them. I like too that you have them teasing one another and interrupting. I like too that you're telling us a lot about the situation without being too blatant about it. Your characters are arguing, but in a playful way, and underneath that, there's a lot more at stake. Nice work, as usual.
