it was boys since day 1

She always liked the boys she could not have. The ones that stuck their tongue out at her, the ones who would pick on her and call her slow when they would play tag. One day in 3rd grade she was sitting at lunch in the cafeteria and a boy named Ian swiveled to face Danielle and said, "hey foxy mama." Her face went pink, she cracked a smile, "Hi Ian" she replied. Not once did Danielle ever have an encounter like that one with a boy. It was so surprising, so she told her two best friends Courtney and Kira.

In 6th grade, all Danielle could think about was getting on the bus at the end of the day so she could listen to her iPod. She would close her eyes and imagine, Evan, the boy she was obsessed with, sing Justin Bieber to her. She was infatuated by this boy, maybe it was because Evan really did look like Justin Bieber and the hype was all about him that year. Danielle sometimes would even have to hide her face on the bus by keeping her head fixed staring out the window when she would cry over him.
Crying because she knew he liked a girl, but it was not her. Her most replayed song that year was "That Should be Me" by Justin Bieber.

Side note: In 8th grade Danielle ended up taking Evan too her 8th grade winter wonderland dance. However half way through the dance she ditched him, ran to the other boy she was crushing on that year, Timothy, and kissed him. Not to mention Timothy at the time had a girl friend that Danielle was very good friends with. She was wilding out lol.

  1. How much do I love this title? SO much! Subject matter is excellent, and voice is strong and funny. I like too that you're keeping us in particular scenes and moments--the bus, for example. That is what you'll want to continue to do as we move forward in the class. Keep us in specific moments in time. I think you could go a little deeper here--why do you think your character was infatuated with boys from day 1? What was she hoping to get? What did she need? What was she missing? We want to understand our characters (and ourselves) better, and so we need for the writer to dig a little deeper. Spend time with these post--it'll be helpful later in class when you might want to go back and mine the material.
